Discount Dental Plans Vs. Dental Insurance

Dental insurances are based on the traditional insurance concept. They are offered by insurance companies, that require whenever you get a covered dental expense, to submit a claim to the insurer. If your claim is approved, the insurer will reimburse you a specific amount after copays, deductibles and maximums have been accounted for.

Discount dental plans are an alternative to dental insurance. Instead they are offering already discounted prices on dental services and that allows members to recieve substantial savings on their dental costs. Pretty much all dental services are available to be discounted with dental plans. Also there is no waiting times or eligibility periods, meaning that you can start saving on your dental care within days after you sign up for dental plan of your choice.

Do you really think that insurance companies sincerely want you to save money on your dental care?
Insurance companies will price and design their dental insurance in the way that they make profits. Over their client base over time, the benefits paid out will be less than the premiums received.

Dental Plans are exactly the opposite from dental insurance. Discount dental plans will save you money on your very first visit to the dentist. In most cases you will save more then what you paid for the plan in your first visit.

For example, let’s say you need braces. With a new dental insurance plan there is a waiting
period of 6 months to get braces. By the time that qualification period passes and you paid 6 month premium, you are still a subject to copays, deductibles, and maximums. Discount dental plan allows you to receive savings immediately upon enrolment. No waiting, no deductibles, maximums, copays, simply no headache.

Dental plans will also save you money on dental cosmetic procedures, while most dental insurance won’t.Should a need rise for a catastrophic dental procedure that is very expensive, dental plans may only provide a discount. Dental insurance plans may cover a larger portion of such a catastrophic loss. This however is not a certainty, as these types of coverage vary widely amongst dental insurance policies.
