AUSTIN (KXAN) - Emergency workers blocked part of a busy intersection after a police officer crashed on the way to a call Sunday night.

Witnesses said the officer had his lights and sirens on his patrol car broadsided a pickup at the intersection of Brodie and William Cannon. The patrol car spun and hit an SUV.

Police said the pickup drove into the intersection because the driver was trying to get out of the way of another officer responding to the call.

Dispatchers tell us the officer suffered injuries to his leg and arm.

EMS took him to the hospital. And witnesses said, they took a second person away.

The south bound lanes of Brodie and William Cannon were closed.

Officers re-routed traffic through the HEB parking lot while they clean up the accident.
