Date set to elect Kuempel's replacement

AUSTIN (KXAN) - On the same day Rep. Edmund Kuempel was laid to rest in the Texas State Cemetery, Gov. Rick Perry announced the date for a special election to vote in his replacement.

Kuempel served 26 years in the Texas House of Representatives in District 44, based in Seguin. It includes Gonzales, Guadalupe and Wilson counties. He died on Thursday of a heart attack.

The special election is set for Tuesday, Dec. 14. Candidates for this special election must file applications with the Secretary of State no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15.

Early voting period for this special election is Monday, Nov. 29 through Friday, Dec. 10.
