AUSTIN (KXAN) - A man died after two crashes on FM 969 early Friday morning.

Police say the victim was driving east on 969 near Highway 183 when his car was hit from behind by an unidentified vehicle that drove away after the contact.

Investigators believe he got out of his silver Buick LeSabre to check out the damage from that collision, when he was hit again, this time by a red Dodge Ram 1500 truck that also drove away.

Austin Police arrived at the crash site just before 2:30 a.m.? They found the man and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Travis County deputies helped APD track that truck to a house further down FM 969.

"They were able to locate the vehicle because it had left its' tire behind at the crash site," said APD Sgt. Chris Vallejo.? "The driver made some admissions to being at the site."

Authorities arrested the driver of the Dodge on suspicion of DWI. Vehiclular homicide detectives continue investigating.

Police say they need to learn more about the first car that hit the Buick.?

They have not released the identities of either the victim or the man the arrested.
