AUSTIN (KXAN) - When Facebook sought to launch its latest feature, it made a deal with the Alamo Drafthouse.

The Drafthouse says Facebook sought it out to be one of about two dozen launch partners for its new "Deals" service.

"They know we have a really loyal fan-base and a really media-friendly fan base, they thought we'd be a good fit," said Alamo Drafthouse Creative Director John Gross.

The new service piggybacks on Facebook's "places" feature. You log into your Facebook iPhone app, or touch.facebook.com on other smartphones. Then you find "Places" and check in. Places in the area with deals will have a yellow icon.

Starting Monday, the Drafthouse will have that icon. People who check in will get a free pint glass.

"We're really excited to be involved," said Gross.

The promotion already has moviegoers excited to check in.

"I'm totally going to start it then, I'm down for free glasses," said Justin Solomon.

"I've never checked in anywhere before, but I think offering an incentive definitely helps," said Cristina Fisher.

For the Drafthouse, every check-in means more people might check the theater out.

"This is actually the evolution of word of mouth marketing," said Gross. "If they want they can say if they're seeing a movie, or who they're with."

Other Facebook Deals include free jeans at the Gap, and buy one get one free burritos at Chipotle. You can see a full list on Facebook's blog.
